Welcome to Missouri S&T!

Opening Week (O-Week) is your first opportunity to make connections, explore campus, and start your college journey with confidence. Whether you're a new student or a family member helping with the transition, we've answered some of the most common questions below.

O-Week Frequently Asked Questions

O-Week, or Opening Week, is Missouri S&T's official welcome program for new students. Throughout the week, you'll meet new friends, connect with your Scout Leader and team, explore campus resources, participate in exciting traditions like Project X, and get ready for a successful first semester.

Opening Week takes place Monday, August 17, through Friday, August 21. You'll have a full week of activities designed to help you feel at home before classes begin.

Project X is one of Missouri S&T's signature Opening Week traditions!

During O-Week, you'll be placed on a team led by a Scout Leader. Each team receives a stripped-down remote-control car and works together throughout the week to prepare it for competition.

As you attend class blocks, your team will earn Joe Bucks that can be spent in the Shop to purchase parts and upgrades for your car. On Project X Day (Friday), you'll put your teamwork and creativity to the test as your team races through 10 exciting obstacles against other teams. It's one of the highlights of O-Week and a great way to build lasting friendships.

Check-in takes place on Sunday, August 16, during Miner Move-In.

During check-in, you'll:

  • Move into your residence hall
  • Receive your O-Week name tag
  • Meet your Scout Leader and fellow team members

Be sure to check your S&T email for your assigned move-in time before arriving on campus.

Your personalized O-Week schedule will be available in the Miner Guide app.

The app is your go-to resource throughout the week and includes:

  • Your personalized schedule
  • Campus maps
  • Event locations
  • Important announcements and updates

Miner Guide is downloadable from the Apple and Android app stores

If you arrive after check-in, simply stop by the Office of Student Involvement in the Havener Center and our staff will help you get caught up.

  • Your phone
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to meet new people!

Many activities take place outdoors, so be prepared to spend time outside.

Some sessions are required, while others are optional. Check your personalized schedule in the Miner Guide app so you know where you need to be throughout the week.
