Greek Councils

Learn more about the councils that govern S&T's Greek Life fraternities and sororities

History of Missouri S&T's Greek Councils

Missouri S&T has been home to fraternities and sororities since 1903. Over the past century, our chapters have come together and established shared forms of governance in the form of Greek councils designed to promote accountability, academic excellence, and safety on our campus. Learn more about our four councils.

Interfraternity Council (IFC)

MST IFC (@MST_IFC) / Posts / X

Founded locally in 1930, the Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the oldest governing council at Missouri S&T. Originally recognized by faculty as an agency dedicated to preserving harmony and fostering close friendships among the six fraternities on campus at the time, IFC has grown and evolved alongside the fraternity community. Over nearly a century, it has expanded from a small council of four officers and nine members into one of the largest student organizations at S&T, now comprised of 16 chapters, seven officers, and approximately 40 members.

IFC representatives are elected by their chapters during their sophomore year and serve a three-year term, providing continuity and long-term leadership for the fraternity community. Recognizable by their gray jackets across campus, IFC members operate with a structure similar to individual fraternities—establishing policy, promoting academic excellence, and holding chapters accountable to shared standards. Through this work, IFC continues its longstanding mission of strengthening fraternity life and advancing the values of scholarship, leadership, and brotherhood at S&T.

The IFC is nationally affiliated with the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and is advised locally by the Fraternity & Sorority Life Manager and Student Involvement Coordinator.

Panhellenic Council (PHC)

Founded locally in 1979 when S&T chartered its third Panhellenic sorority, the Panhellenic Council (PHC or Panhel) serves as the governing body for S&T’s National Panhellenic Conference sororities. Established to promote unity, collaboration, and shared standards among member chapters, PHC has grown alongside the sorority community and remains committed to fostering friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service. Today, the council represents its member chapters through a structured executive board and chapter delegates who work together to advance the sorority experience on campus. The Panhellenic Council is comprised of three chapters.

Panhellenic delegates are selected by their respective chapters to serve as voting representatives, while the executive board oversees recruitment, policy development, judicial processes, and community-wide initiatives. Operating collaboratively and transparently, PHC sets shared expectations, supports academic success, coordinates primary recruitment, and holds chapters accountable to national and campus standards. Through this work, the Panhellenic Council strengthens the sorority community and empowers women to lead with integrity and purpose at Missouri S&T.

The Panhellenic Council is nationally affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) and is advised locally by the Fraternity & Sorority Life Manager and Student Involvement Coordinator.

Greek Independent Council (GIC)

Founded in 2021 as a revitalization of the Greek Independent Board, the Greek Independent Council (GIC) serves as the governing body for a handful of S&T’s fraternities and sororities. Established to promote collaboration, accountability, and shared standards among independent chapters, GIC provides structure and support while honoring the unique traditions and identities of each organization. The council fosters a strong sense of community grounded in scholarship, leadership, service, and lifelong membership.

GIC is composed of executive officers and chapter delegates who represent their organizations in council decisions and initiatives. Together, they develop and uphold policies, coordinate community-wide programming, promote academic success, and ensure chapters operate in alignment with university expectations. Through shared governance and mutual support, GIC strengthens the independent Greek experience and advances a unified fraternity and sorority community at Missouri S&T.

GIC is the home council for one fraternity and two sororities. GIC is not affiliated with a national council and is advised locally by the Fraternity & Sorority Life Manager and Student Involvement Coordinator within Student Involvement.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

Fraternity & Sorority Life - National Panhellenic Council

Founded locally in 2025 following the resurgence of nationally affiliated NPHC chapters at Missouri S&T, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) serves as the collaborative governing body for the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities known as the “Divine Nine.” Rooted in a rich legacy of scholarship, service, leadership, and advocacy, NPHC promotes unity and shared purpose among its member organizations while honoring their distinct histories and traditions.

NPHC is composed of executive officers and chapter delegates who represent their respective organizations in council initiatives and decision-making. Together, they establish and uphold policies, coordinate educational and service-based programming, support academic achievement, and ensure chapters operate in alignment with both university and national standards. Through intentional collaboration and a commitment to excellence, NPHC strengthens the fraternity and sorority experience and contributes to a more inclusive and engaged campus community at Missouri S&T.

NPHC serves as the home council for S&T’s three NPHC-affiliated fraternities and is affiliated nationally with the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The council is advised locally by the Fraternity & Sorority Life Manager and Student Involvement Coordinator within Student Involvement.
